Leonard Wren is an Impressionist Painter who travels to far reaches to find inspiration for his work. “If you want the truth, you have to go straight to the outdoors.”
Using broken brushwork, Wren scarcely glances at his palette as he works. “I’m most concerned with the rhythm of what I see in front of me. As a colorist, I don’t have a definite technique: I keep adding color until I achieve the effect I want. You can get too concerned with the details, and forget about the shapes. I work with the whole painting at once in order to get that wonderful sense of the moment. The essence of impressionism is capturing the vitality of sunlight – the fleeting moment which is light.”
